March 2017 – School Renovation $5,000
Catalyst Foundation prides itself on coordinating emotionally rewarding, sustainable volunteer experiences, working hands on with our community members in rural picturesque Vietnam. Our “project sites” are the homes and schools of those we serve, not tourist attractions.
A team of students from the University of Cincinnati will be arriving mid-March to help us renovate a public middle school that some of our primary school students will be attending in the fall. The renovation is the next step in providing a safe, fun, learning environment for the children.
As the threat of strangers and traffic increases, we must insure our commitment to the children and families of the community. The team will also add on to our brick fence around the Catalyst Foundation Community Education Center. This fence provides an area, away from harm, where parents and children can feel safe. The community and the volunteers will work together sharing the vision of a safe place for the children.
March 2017 – Medical Outreach $8,000
One week after the school renovation is completed, we have a team of doctors, medical volunteers, and young Vietnamese-American adults that will be coming to provide basic medical and dental care for our community. We will also be able to provide immunizations, anti-worm medication, and education on nutrition, basic hygiene, and use of clean water to the entire community. Our goal is to see over 400 people in 3 short days!
August 2017 – Kitchen Construction $5,000
The most current information provided by the state run Vietnam News Agency stated “that a third of pre-school children in Vietnam were malnourished, underweight or suffered from growth deficiencies.” Catalyst Foundation gives almost 100 children the opportunity to go to school through our Project Backpack program. But they are still hungry. 100% of the children in our community are malnourished and their growth is stunted.
Our goal is to build a multipurpose kitchen/cafeteria near the Catalyst Foundation Community Education Center which will provide students a place to eat breakfast and/or lunch. Community mothers will be hired to prepare the food, which will improve students’ nutritional intake by offering balanced meals. When it is not being used to feed to the children, we will rent the space out to 2-3 women who would like to use it to start a business to sell food to the community. This will provide an additional source of income and offer community members the opportunity to practice small-business management skills.Donate
Catalyst Foundation will support the surveying of new main water supplies from the original mountain water source. This will include digging wells, connecting main water pipes to hydroelectric dams, and surveying additional mountain water sources. We will develop a multi-tank system that will be effective, cost-efficient and simple enough for locals to replicate with existing materials. The project is sustainable, easy to construct depending on how many families each system can support.
